Section Two: Getting Started
AuctionTamer’s unique tabbed browser technology enables users to simultaneously search and track items at the online auction sites; eBay, Amazon, Yahoo, uBid, the FairMarket Network which includes Microsoft, Excite, Lycos, ZDNet and others. AuctionTamer is very easy to use. Simply find an item by using the built-in auction browser and click the Add button. AuctionTamer will add it to the watch list and keep track of it for you. All items from multiple auction sites are displayed in one Easy to read list and your List is automatically saved when you exit AuctionTamer.
If you've updated from version 3.0.2 and below your data file will automatically be converted to a new format with the extension .atx instead of .atd. The .atd file is not erased.
Terms to Know
Before you begin to use the program, you should set-up your Preferences. To set-up Preferences, click View on the Menu Item, then select Preferences.
How to add items to the AuctionTamer list
Adding items to the AuctionTamer list is easy and fun to watch.
Updates - From time to time updates will be made available on the AuctionTamer web site as features are added and problems are fixed. Click here for the update page.
Three: Menu Item Bar
The AuctionTamer Menu Item Bar is the horizontal bar immediately beneath the title bar. The menu bar lists the names of one or more menus, as shown below.
File - When you click on the File menu, a menu similar to the one below appears.
New - Creates a new AuctionTamer list. Tip: Use this to create different lists for family members.
Open - Opens an existing AuctionTamer list. Select the version of the AuctionTamer file to open. AuctionTamer versions 1.0 thru 3.0.x, uses a .atd file. Versions 3.5.x and above uses a .atx file.
Save - Saves the AuctionTamer list to the opened file. The AuctionTamer list is automatically saved every 5 minutes if you added or deleted any items and also when you exit AuctionTamer.
Save As - Saves the current AuctionTamer list and copies the list to a specified location. After the files are saved, you are given the option to use the new file or keep using the current one. Use this feature to make backups of your list.
Export to tab file - Use this advanced feature to export the AuctionTamer list to other database applications. The file will be saved as a .tab file. If you added any extra columns to the list and you want to export those then left-click and then right-click on the category tab you want to export (Open/Closed/Won/Other) and select Export List.
Print Web Page - Prints the current web page displayed on the screen.
Print AuctionTamer List - Previews and prints the current AuctionTamer List. If you added any extra columns to the list and you want to print those then left-click and then right-click on the category tab you want to print (Open/Closed/Won/Other) and select Print List. Tip: For best results set your printer to landscape mode.
Exit - Click this dialog box to save your list and to exit AuctionTamer.
View Menu - When you click on the View menu, a menu similar to the one below appears.
Button Names - If this item is not checked, the names from the buttons on the Upper and Lower Icon Button Bars are removed and the buttons size decreases.Browsers - When you click on the Browser menu, a menu similar to the one below appears.
Preferences - Lets you change several default settings in the program. Click to open the Preferences box. A dialog box similar to the one below appears. Set your desired preferences.
Default Home button web page - Enter the web page you want displayed when you press the Home button on the Upper Icon Button Bar.
Other Search drop down option - Enter the web page you want displayed when you select the Other tab located when the down-arrow next to the Search button is pressed on the Upper Icon Button Bar.
FairMarket Auction Network - The FairMarket Auction Network contains many companies sharing a common database for auctions.
eBay, Amazon & Yahoo - Here you can switch between the US and UK sites for eBay, Amazon & Yahoo. You can also switch to the eBay Australia site.
- Choose the site as your FairMarket auction site. Choose one of the sites listed using the drop down button. You can view other participants of the FairMarket Auction Network at: www.fairmarket.com
- Time difference in minutes - This is the time difference between eBay Time (Pacific Time) and FairMarket Time (Eastern Time). The default is -180 (3 hours) but sometimes their clock might be a couple minutes off, so a number like -178 might be more accurate.
Play warning sound when Time Left is Less than ___ minutes - Use this feature when you want a warning sound played. Enter 0 (zero) for no warning sound.
Update all open items at startup - If checked, all open auction items will be updated when the AuctionTamer program starts. You can also update individual items by double clicking on the Time Left column for that item.
Automatically move items from Open to Closed - If checked, items are moved to the Closed category after the auction ends. You can still move items manually by selecting the item or items, right clicking the mouse, then select Move to Closed. If the amount in My Bid is greater or equal to the amount in Last Bid then the item is moved to the Won category.
Verify Delete - If not checked, a dialog box is not displayed when deleting items in the AuctionTamer list.
Use the current browser... - If you double click on an item in the AuctionTamer list and this option is checked, the item is displayed in the selected tab otherwise it is displayed in the appropriate browser.
Play sound when Last Bid changes - If checked, a 'Ching' sounds when the last bid on an item changes. The background color will change to green until its next update.
If Last Bid is over... - See My Bid
Don't update the list... - If checked, the items in the List will not update as long as the browsers for eBay, Amazon and Yahoo are busy retrieving information. Tip: If you have a slow internet connection it is a good idea to have this preference checked.
User ID's & Passwords - Optional - Click on this tab to enter your user ID's and passwords for each auction site. The information is used to fill out bid forms and sending seller feedback.
Auction Colors - Use this feature to adjust the default colors of the different auction sites in the AuctionTamer List.
To change the colors, highlight the item you want changed, press one of the buttons; Foreground Color, or Background Color. Select the desired color and press OK.
To change back to the original default color, press the Default Color button. Tip: AuctionTamer uses the 3D Objects color in your system for the Font color.
Show/Hide Browsers - If not checked the browser window is removed and only the AuctionTamer list is displayed on the screen.List - When you click on the List menu, a menu similar to the one below appears.
Show/Hide Address Bar - This displays or hides the Address bar. With the bar displayed, you can type in your own URL addresses.
Show/Hide Auction Tabs - Use this to turn the Yahoo, MSN or uBid Browser tabs on and off by checking or un-checking the tabs. If turned off (un-checking) you can still track Yahoo, MSN or uBid items but the separate tabs are not displayed on the Browser. To re-display a tab on the Browser, check it.
Fast Startup - When checked, only the Surf and eBay web pages are loaded at startup. The other auction tabs web pages are loaded only when their tabs are clicked.
Add/Edit/Close/Reset Web Page - See Browser Tabs
Find All Items on Page - This function will retrieve all auction items on the selected web pages. Use this feature to compile the results of a search, or to list all items from a particular seller. After clicking, a dialog box similar to the one below appears. Tip: This feature works great after you do a multi-auction search.
Form Filler - This function saves data that you enter on a web page for easy retrieval later. To use this feature, go to the page you want to save (i.e. a seller's page or a search page), type in the information you want saved.
The Form Filler dialog box can be displayed many different ways. You can either press Ctrl-g or right-click on the Browser tab, then select Form Filler. It can also be displayed by clicking the Form Filler menu option from the Browsers menu.
To save the info on the form displayed in the background, press the Save Web Form Data button. You will be asked to name it. You can always edit the name later by double clicking on it. You can also adjust the size of the column if your name is to big.
To place the info back on a page, highlight the name on the list and press the Display Web Page button. Once the page has finished loading, press the Fill-in Web Page button. You will see the information on the form in the background and at this point, press the Close button.
To delete the info, highlight the line and press the Delete button. Tip: This data is saved in a file called filler.grd in the same directory as your data file.
Customize List - Use this feature to add columns to the AuctionTamer list or to change the font size or type. To add columns, click the Customized List tab. A dialog box similar to the one below will appear.Active-Sites - When you click on this menu item, a menu similar to the one below appears.
List Item Count - Displays the number of items in each category of the AuctionTamer List.
Add... - To add a column, press the Add button and enter the heading name of a column you want to add in the AuctionTamer List. Tip: You can add as many headings as you want.
Put a check mark in each category you wish the new column to be displayed in.
You can create two kinds of heading; Text or Check Box. A Text heading includes numbers and dates.
Delete... - To delete a heading, select the item, and press the Delete button. All information stored in that heading category is lost.
Change Font - To change the font style of a Category in the list, click the corresponding button under the category and the font selection dialog box will appear. Select your font style, then click OK.
Show/Hide Button Bar - Displays or Hides the Lower Icon Button Bar. To hide the lower bar, un-click the tab. To re-display the bar, check it.
Highlight Last Undated Item - If checked, the last updated item in the AuctionTamer List is highlighted. To turn off this feature, un-check the tab.
When an auction site listed in the Active-Sites is checked, the items from that site in the List will be updated. If the site is not activated the item(s) from that site are skipped and an '*' will be displayed after the Time Left Field. Tip: Use this feature if one of the auction servers is not available.Favorites - When you click on this menu item, a menu similar to the one below appears.
Add to Favorites - Uses the Internet Explorer Add to Favorites dialog box.Help - When you click on this menu item, a menu similar to the one below appears.
Display Favorites - Displays your Internet Explorer favorites menu. Simply find the URL you want to display and double-click on the item. You can delete the highlighted item by right-clicking on it and selecting Delete.

Technical Support - This will take you to the AuctionTamer Technical Support web page.
Check for Updates - To see if you need to update, click this item and AuctionTamer will list your version and the latest updated version available for download. To update to the latest version, click 'Yes'.
Update Timer - Use the Update Timer to update the eBay clock or synchronize your system time to eBay time.
The Update eBay Timer button will just re-read the eBay timer web page, but your system time will not be affected. The Set System Time button sets your system time.
The Set System Time to eBay Min. & Sec. button is your best choice to synchronize your clock. This button will only make the minutes and the seconds exactly the same as eBay's. If you want to adjust the hours then change the hour in the text box and press, Set System Time, then press Set System Time to eBay Min & Sec. Tip: Don't drive yourself crazy trying to get them to match exactly, expect them to be off by 1 or 2 seconds. Your system time displayed in the system tray (lower right corner) might take a minute before you notice the change.
Show/Hide Grid Help - When this item is checked, a window appears with help text as the mouse is moved over the different columns in the List.
Buy AuctionTamer - Select this item to view the Purchase AuctionTamer web page.
Enter Registration Key - Once you receive your AuctionTamer Registration Key, click this item to enter the registration key and your e-mail address. Note: Be sure you enter the Registration Key exactly as it appears in your email you received (including the dashes).
Section Four: Upper Icon Button Bar
The AuctionTamer Upper Icon Buttons
Bar is the horizontal bar immediately beneath the Menu Item Bar.
If the menu option View / Button Names is un-clicked the Upper Icon Button Bar is displayed as shown in below.
Back - Returns to the previous web page view in the browser.
Forward - After moving back you can go forward.
Stop - Cancels the web page you are accessing.
Refresh - Updates the web page displayed in the browser.
Home - Displays the Home page that is defined in Preferences. Click on the down arrow to select eBay, Amazon, Yahoo, FairMarket or AuctionTamer's home page.
Search - AuctionTamer's Enhanced Multi-Auction Search function makes managing and searching online auctions a whole lot easier. From a single dialog box you can simultaneously search several auction sites and view the results using different sorting methods. The Enhanced Multi-Auction Search function saves and categorizes your searches, plus has the capacity to search for items by title only, or by title and description.
To use the Multi-Auction Search function click the Search Icon button. A dialog box will appear as shown below.
Check the auction sites to search (i.e. eBay, Amazon, Yahoo, uBid and the FairMarket.
In the Search field, enter your search criteria (i.e. color monitor), click Search. AuctionTamer searches the auction site title pages for a word match and displays the results in the browser window. If you want to search the auction site description pages for a word match, click the Description box.
To view your search results, click the appropriate auction browser tab and the results from that auction site will be displayed on the browser screen. You can click an auction item for viewing or to add to your List.
Reusing search terms - After you enter a search criteria in the Search field, the term is stored and becomes available for reuse in the drop-down list. You can reuse a search term or modify it to create a different search. To select a saved term, click the down-arrow next to the Search field. Click to select a saved search term. The term will appear in the Search field. To start the search, click Search. Note: The Multi-Auction Search function will save and store the last 20 search terms.
To save the criteria listed in the Search field to a folder, highlight the folder you want the term saved into and press the Add button. You can create different folders by clicking the Create Folder button.
Getting more out of your searches - The Multi-Auction Search function provides several options to adjust and refine your searches. To focus your search results, you can search and sort the results the following ways;
- Items ending first - Items are sorted and ranked beginning with the current items ending displayed first.
- Newly-listed items first - Items are sorted and ranked beginning with the newly-listed items displayed first.
- Highest price - Items are sorted and ranked beginning with the highest price to the lowest.
- Lowest price - Items are sorted and ranked beginning with the lowest price to the highest.
To start a search using this option, check the auction sites you want to search (i.e. eBay, Amazon, Yahoo, uBid and the FairMarket.
Highlight the Search Criteria in a folder and select one of the "Sort by" options by clicking on the "Sort by" column. Use the down-arrow to select the "Sort by" criteria.
If you want to search the auction site description pages for a word match, click the description box column and then click the Search Highlighted button. The results are displayed on the browser screen. You can click an auction item for viewing or to add to your List.
To delete a criteria in a folder, highlight the Search Criteria and then click the Delete tab. To close, click Close.
You can also search for items by clicking on the down arrow next to the Search Icon button. Select eBay, Amazon, Yahoo, FairMarket, uBid or the Optional Search page you selected in Preferences.
Add - Once an item is displayed on the browser screen the Add button on the Upper Icon Button Bar will become active. Click the button to add the item to the AuctionTamer List.
A new feature incorporated into the Add Icon button enables you to easily view new items placed in the AuctionTamer List, while in the browser screen. After clicking the Add button a "swoosh" sound is heard, indicating the item has been added to the List. You can continue adding items to the List while in the browser screen. To view the new items in the List, click the Browser Icon button. A red graphic dot will be displayed in the item description column of all newly added items.
The red graphic is removed from the description column, after the program closes, or by clicking the Brower Icon button to hide the AuctionTamer List.
Price - Displays a retail price comparison web site. Tip: Useful in determining whether you are getting a fair price.
Browser - Hides or displays the the AuctionTamer List. Use the scroll buttons on the right to adjust the size of the AuctionTamer List, or you can move the adjustable bar between the browser and the list.
Section Five: Lower Icon Buttons
The AuctionTamer Lower Icon Buttons Bar is the horizontal bar immediately beneath the browser screen.
If the View / Button Names is un-clicked the Lower Icon Button Bar is displayed as shown below.
Add Item - Performs the same function as the Upper Icon Add button. Once an item is displayed on the screen (not in a search results) this button will become active. Click the button to add the item to the AuctionTamer List.
Delete Item - Deletes a highlighted item in the AuctionTamer List.
Other Items - List other items the highlighted seller has for sale.
Feedback - Displays the feedback screen for the highlighted seller.
History - Displays the Bid History for the highlighted item.
e-Mail - Displays the e-mail address of the selected seller. eBay requires you enter your User ID and Password for access to the information. Yahoo does not give out e-mail addresses, but this function will take you to their "ask question section" for the selected seller.
Stop Updating - Click to stop updating the AuctionTamer List. The Time Left timer will still work but the amounts will not be updated. An asterisk * will appear after the Time Left column if the item needs updating.
Section Six: The Browser Tab Bar
The Browser Tab Bar is the horizontal bar beneath the Upper Icon Button Bar. The Browser Tab lists the different web sites.
AuctionTamer has a powerful tabbed browser. You can have multiple browsers opened at once. You can also add your own favorite web sites. The Add item button only works with auction sites that are supported by AuctionTamer.
To access the Browser Tab menu as shown below, right-click on the active tab.
Add Web Page - This is the same as pressing the New tab.
The easiest way to add your own tabs is to surf to the page you want in the current browser and press the New tab. The current web page address will be carried forward and a dialog box will appear as shown below.
Auto Fill-in Form - With this feature all you need to do is press a tab and AuctionTamer will automatically load the page, enter any data on the page and submit the form. This can be used for logging into the many different web sites you use daily like My eBay, PayPal and HotMail. You could also use this for searches. Just remember to keep your tab names short.
The easiest way to add a new tab is to:
Be at the page you want to add
Enter all the information that you want to be automatically entered
Press the New tab button
Enter the Name of the tab
Press the Get Form Data button
Press the OK button
For PayPal it is best to go to their Log In page and not their home page to fill in your information. By doing it this way you will be able to Log Out.
You can edit an existing tab by clicking on the tab then right-click on the tab and select Edit Web Page.
Enter a name for the tab and make sure the address is correct. If the proper page is not displayed then press the Display Page button. You can move the Add/Edit box to enter any information on the page in the background.
Now press the Get Form Data button. You will see all your data you entered being displayed in the box provided.
Some web pages have more than one form that is why you will see Form: 1 or Form: 2 for example.
The default is auto submitting form 1, if you need to change this just change the Submit Form: 1 to Submit Form: 2 for example the My eBay page has two forms on one page and you will need to change the top line to Submit Form: 2
If you don't want the form to auto submit then erase the Submit Form line.
Your custom tabs and your settings in Preferences is saved in atamer.cfg located in the same directory as your data file.
Edit Web Page - Only existing web page tabs can be edited. You can not edit the AuctionTamer default auction site tabs; eBay, Amazon, Yahoo, FairMarket and uBid.
Close Web Page - Removes the web page and its tab from the Browser Tab Bar. You can not remove the Surf, eBay or Amazon tabs. If you want to remove the other auction tabs you need to use the Show/Hide Auction Tabs menu.
Reset Web Page - Resets the web page to the Home page of the auction site or to the address you chose when you added the new tab.
Form Filler - See menu item Browsers / Form Filler.
Section Seven: The AuctionTamer List
The AuctionTamer List has 4 categories; Open, Closed, Won and Other as shown below. All new auction items are added to the Open category. After the auction closes, it automatically moves to the Closed category, unless this feature was turned off in Preferences. You can manually move items to the Won or Other category, by selecting the item and right-clicking the mouse button, then select the appropriate category to move the item to. Note: Items are only updated in the Open category.
Item - This column displays a item # of the added item.
Description - This column displays a description of the added item.
Time Left - This column displays the time left until the auction ends. If an asterisk "*" is displayed after the Time Left this means the item was not updated and either the Stop Updating button is pressed down or the auction site of that item in Active-Sites is un-checked. If 2 dots ".." are displayed after the Time Left, this item is in the queue for being updated. Double click on this column to update the particular auction item.
When there is less than sixty (60) minutes left in the auction, the text in Time Left will turn blue. When there is less than five (5) minutes left, the text turns red.
Last Bid - This column displays the last bid amount for the item, or the current bid if it is a dutch auction. If a reserve price has not been met the amount will be displayed in red. If the Last Bid amount changes the background will turn green until it's next update.
Bids - This column displays the total number of bids for the item.
Qty - This column displays the item quantity available (Dutch).
My Bid - To enter a bid on a item using the My Bid column, first click on the item listed in the description column and double-click on the corresponding My Bid column. Enter an amount ($) in the My Bid column and left-click the mouse once. To place the bid double click on the item. The amount specified in the My Bid column will automatically be inserted onto the web page once it has finished loading. Press the "Bid" button on the web page and if your User ID and Password are setup in Preferences they will automatically be inserted on the auction site. Press the "Confirm Bid" button and the bid will be recorded.
If an amount is entered in the My Bid column and if the Last Bid is greater than the amount in My Bid, then a dialog similar to the one below will appear giving you 5 choices.
Note: The My Bid feature WILL NOT make an automatic bid. For information on making a bid with esnipe click here.
High Bidder - If the auction is not a dutch auction, the High Bidder will be displayed at this column. Note: FairMarket auctions like MSN do not support this feature.
Seller - This column list the seller of this item. Click the Other Items icon button or the Feedback icon button for information on this seller.
Memo - Adds a simple note to an item. Click on the row and this column to enter a memo.
FB - This column will display a "check" when you leave feedback for the seller of the selected item. By default setting, this column is displayed only in the Won Category.
Changing the List order - You can customize the order information is displayed by clicking on a specified column heading (i.e. Seller) and dragging it to another position.
To drag a column, position the tip of the mouse pointer over the specified column, hold down the left mouse button, and move the mouse. Move the column to the desired location and release the left mouse button.

Section Eight: The Right-Click List Menu
This feature allows you to perform all the functions of the lower button bar. You can also send a feedback message to the selected seller. However, you must be in a closed auction in order for this feature to operate. Once you select an item you can right-click on the mouse then choose Send Feedback to Seller.
Open open items.
Seller Other Items - List the other items that the highlighted seller has for sale.
Seller Feedback - Displays the feedback screen for the highlighted seller.
Bid History - Displays the Bid History for the highlighted item.
Seller e-Mail - Displays the e-Mail address of the selected seller. eBay requires you enter your User ID and Password for access to the information. Yahoo does not give out e-mail addresses, but this function will take you to their "ask question section" for the selected seller.
Delete Item(s) - Deletes the highlighted item or items in the AuctionTamer List.
Update Item(s) - Updates the highlighted item or items in the AuctionTamer List.
Start/Stop Updating All - Stops updating the AuctionTamer List. The Time Left timer will still work but the amounts will not be updated. An asterisk * will appear after the Time Left column if the item needs updating.
Move to Open/Closed/Won/Other - Select the item you want to move, then right-click and choose the category you want to move this item to.
Display Item - To display item, double-click on the description column of the item. The item will be displayed in the appropriate tabbed browser. Unless this feature is turned off in Preferences.
Send Feedback to Seller - To place feedback onto a sellers account, select the item you won, right-click and choose "Send Feedback to Seller." A dialog box similar to the one below will appear.
FairMarket and eBay auctions will display the web page for sending feedback and a dialog box were you can choose the appropriate comment. Once you press "Paste on Page" the information will be inserted onto the web page. When leaving comments on the eBay or FairMarket, you must press "leave comment." When submitting feedback to Amazon & Yahoo sellers, web page will not be displayed but your comment will be sent.
Note: After you send feedback the FB column will be checked for that particular item.
Section Nine: esnipe Biding
What is esnipe? - esnipe is an automated snipe web site for eBay auctions. It places a bid on your behalf, only seconds before the auction ends. Featuring an easy to use interface, and a well tuned bid engine, esnipe can snipe as fast or faster than any other utility we've seen. They also offer some other features, such as bid groups, to make your auction bidding experience more exciting.
Setting up esnipe - To make esnipe easier to use you may want to set your eBay User ID and password in Preferences. AuctionTamer automatically fills in this information when you use esnipe.
You will also need to join esnipe in order to use their services. You can join by pressing the arrow next to the esnipe button, and selecting the esnipe home page. Note: esnipe is not affiliated with Envision Software, Inc.
Making a bid with esnipe - To make a bid using esnipe simply select the eBay item in the AuctionTamer List you want to bid on. Press the esnipe button. If your eBay User ID and password was entered in Preference, then AuctionTamer will automatically fill in the information.
If you entered an amount in the My Bid column, this amount will be used to make a bid. If the My Bid column is blank, the amount you bid will be placed in the My Bid column, once your bid is placed with esnipe.
Checking on the status of your bid - You
can check on the status of your bid or cancel your bid by pressing the
arrow next to the esnipe button and selecting eSnipe Status Page. Then
follow the instructions on the screen. You will NOT
cancel your bid by just deleting it from AuctionTamer.
Section Ten: MyBidders Button
AuctionTamer’s unique tabbed browser technology now enables auction sellers to manage their online auctions and customers. The My Bidders feature in AuctionTamer currently works with open and closed auctions posted on eBay and Amazon and closed auctions posted on Yahoo. Everything is automatic, just list your auctions, add them to the AuctionTamer List and AuctionTamer will take it from there. New bidders receive a "Thank you for your bid" e-mail and after the auction closes, they are sent a "You Won!" e-mail with payment instructions or they are sent a "Sorry your bid was unsuccessful" e-mail. When you receive payment, click the "Pay" button and enter the bidders information. Nothing could be easier!
After updating to AuctionTamer Version 4.0, two new tabs, Selling and Sold are added to the AuctionTamer List tabs and a My Bidders button is added to the Lower Icon Button Bar as displayed below.
By default the My Bidders button is disabled until you click either the Selling or Sold tab. Note: After clicking the My Bidders button you may receive notice informing you to install the Microsoft Database Support.
If the My Bidders screen is displayed as shown below, you are now ready to set-up your e-mail and User ID's in Preferences. Click the Close button to exit the My Bidders feature.
Setting Up User ID's and Passwords
In order to retrieve bidder information when using the
My Bidders feature, you must enter your user ID's and passwords for eBay and
Amazon auctions, if any. To set your User ID's, click the View menu
located on the Menu Item Bar and select Preferences. Click the User ID
& Password tab. A dialog
box similar to the one below appears.
After you enter your Amazon nickname, if any, press the "Get Amazon user Code" button. Your user code will be displayed in the User Code box. Click OK to save.
Seller Setup & e-mail
Click this tab to setup your e-mail server and other options. A dialog box will appear as shown below.
If you are using Microsoft Outlook then select Microsoft Outlook. If you are using anything else then you will need to set up the SMTP (Simple Mail Transfer Protocol) email server. Some servers will allow you to use their server to send email. You can look in your email account in your setup email program to see what server you are using. If you are using a service like AOL then you will need to select a SMTP server like: mail.crosswinds.net or you may need to sign up with a free email service like www.yahoo.com if you use Yahoo then the SMTP server will be smtp.mail.yahoo.com Once you signup with Yahoo email you will need to select Option and then POP Access & Forwarding, then you will need to select Yes for POP access.
If you would like a copy sent to your email program for your records then type in your email address. This is required for SMTP email. In Outlook all the email you send with AuctionTamer will be in your Sent folder.
If you select SMTP you will need to give your From/Reply email address. If you use Yahoo email then you will need to put your Yahoo email address here.
Send "New Bidder" e-mail when new bidders are added. When checked, an e-mail will automatically be sent to all new bidders after an auction list update.
Send "Lost" e-mail to unsuccessful bidders. When checked, an e-mail will automatically be sent to all unsuccessful bidders after the auction closes.
Verify before sending auto e-mails. When checked, before an e-mail is sent, a dialog box will appears on the screen reading "Do you want to send this e-mail? Yes or No." before auto e-mails are sent. Note: THIS FEATURE IS VERY IMPORTANT. Keep it checked until you are very comfortable with the program.
When adding auction items you are selling add them to the Open list instead of Selling list. When checked, your auctions will be added to the Open list instead of the Selling list.
Default printer for printing e-mail. In order to print your e-mails, you must list the printer attached to your computer. Use the arrow keys to scroll through the printer list and highlight your printer.
Setup test e-mail. Click to send a test e-mail to yourself. A dialog box will appear asking you for your e-mail address.
Enter your e-mail address. Click OK. An e-mail reading "This is a test" will be sent to your the e-mail address you specified. If your e-mail properties are configured incorrectly you will need to press the Cancel test button and try another e-mail server. If you receive a message saying everything is ok then press OK to save your preferences.
Setting Up e-mail Templates
After you save Preferences, click the Selling tab and
press the My Bidders button. Press the e-Mail button to setup your e-mail
templates. A dialog box will appear as shown below. AuctionTamer has
five bidder e-mail templates to choose from or you can customize a template to
suit you needs. Use AuctionTamer's default templates to send e-mails to
your bidders; after they bid, if they lose, if they lose because the reserve
price wasn't met, if they win, and when they make a payment.
The 5 e-mail templates are displayed as; New Bidder; Lost; Reserve; Won and Paid. You can customize your own e-mail template in the "New" template box.
You can view each template by pressing the left and right arrows on the bottom of the dialog box. Information enclosed with brackets [ ] will be include in your email. For example, when a bracket containing the following [ID Name], the ID Name of the bidder will be inserted into the e-mail. When a bracket contains the following [Date of bid], the date of the bid will be inserted into the e-mail.
To edit a template click the Edit e-mail template box and enter the desired information. Remember to include the brackets [ ] before and after the heading, for example [Amt Bid]. All template insertions will be saved only after clicking the Update command. To print a template, click Print. To test your templates, try e-mailing one to yourself. Put your e-mail address in the To box and press Send. If the Print when Sent box is checked, a copy of the e-mail will be printed. For a complete list of e-mail tags click here.
Adding Auctions to the AuctionTamer List
After listing an auction item for sale on eBay or Amazon, press the Add button on the Upper Icon Button Bar or the Lower Icon Bar. Your item is automatically added to the Selling tab. AuctionTamer browser technology compares the seller ID with your User ID in Preferences. If the seller ID matches your User's ID the auction item is added to the Selling tab.
After clicking the Add button a "swoosh" sound is heard, indicating the item has been added to the List. You can continue adding items to the Sellers list while in the browser screen. To view the new items in the Sellers lists, click the Browser Icon button.
You can also use the Find All Items on page in your My eBay web page. To use this feature, pull up your My eBay page in eBay and select Find All Items on page and click Start. Click Select All and then the Add Selected tab. All auction items will be added to the proper tab.
After your auction ends, the item is automatically moved from the Sellers tab to the Sold tab.

Adding New Bidders
AuctionTamer continually updates your Auctions while online and at program startup, unless this feature is unchecked in Preferences. When a bid is placed on an auction, the bidders ID name is placed in the Sellers tab list and the New Bidder dialog box will appear.
To send an e-mail to the new bidder, click OK.
Note: When a new bidder is added to the AuctionTamer List a "coin-drop" sound is heard.
My Bidders Feature
AuctionTamer's My Bidders feature gives you the option of displaying bidder and auction information several different ways. Your auctions can be displayed in the following categories; Won, Lost; Open; All.
For example, lets start with a closed auction. Select an auction listed in the Close tab in the AuctionTamer List. Highlight the item and right-click the mouse. Select "Move item to" and then select "Move to Sold." The item is moved to the Sold tab.
Click the Sold tab, find the item and highlight it. Click the My Bidders button.
Since they have already been sent e-mail, un-check the "Send e-mail when updating bidder list" tab. If you you want to see the e-mail but do not want it sent, select No when asked to send. Press Update. The bidder information is transfer to the My Bidders screen.
From the My Bidders screen you can send e-mail to the bidder or place feedback. To place feedback, highlight the bidder, click Feedback. A dialog box similar to the one below will appear.
Check the appropriate rating. eBay uses Positive to Negative rating system, while Amazon uses a number rating system. You can use the default comment or type in your own. To send feedback, click the Send Feedback tab.
Display from all auctions - When checked, all bidders are displayed on the My Bidders screen grid.
Display bidders option - This option allows you to display bidders in different categories; Won; Lost; Open; All. When the Won category is checked, all winning bidders will be displayed in the My Bidders screen grid. When the Lost category is checked, all losing bidders will the displayed in the My Bidders screen grid. The Open category will display all current bidders and when the All category is checked, all bidders will be displayed in the My Bidders screen grid.
Select a pre-set list - This feature automatically arranges your auction information into 3 different categories for record keeping purposes; Won but not paid; Paid but not shipped; Paid & shipped no feedback.
Taking Payment and Shipping
Once you receive a payment, highlight the bidder and press the Paid/Ship button. A dialog box will appear as shown below.
Enter all information and click Post Changes. The information is automatically entered into the appropriate My Bidders screen grid column.

If you have a slow internet connection, make sure the menu item: Browsers / Fast Startup is checked.
